Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the way science is done – from predicting protein structures to exploring the origins of matter. In this panel, the Swiss State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation, Dr. Martina Hirayama, will discuss with Nobel laureates and other leading researchers what it takes to integrate AI as a genuine scientific tool: reliable data, transparent algorithms, and interdisciplinary collaboration. How can AI accelerate discovery without compromising rigor or creativity?

The discussion will address key challenges such as data quality, interpretability, and reproducibility, as well as opportunities including enhanced simulations, faster discovery, and novel research questions. The panellists will explore how intelligent systems may redefine research and transform scientific work – not merely as tools of analysis, but as frameworks enabling new forms of reasoning and knowledge generation.
