Abstract

In today's rapidly evolving scientific landscape, transcending disciplinary boundaries is crucial for driving innovation. Yet, as scientists, we often remain anchored in the expertise of our specific fields. This panel aims to explore ways to propel Chemistry forward by reimagining the framework of scientific collaboration, drawing on experiences from ISTA and other leading research institutions. Chemistry & Materials at ISTA exemplifies the fusion of theoretical and experimental approaches, utilizing advanced NMR facilities and fostering interdisciplinary research across organic chemistry, materials science, and biochemistry. By viewing interdisciplinary collaboration as a catalyst for innovation, we strive to pinpoint the essential steps for forging new scientific paths. In the second half of our discussion, we will focus on the question of how to best support early-career scientists, including mentorship and securing research funding. We’ll also discuss best practices for attracting diverse talent, creating an inclusive environment, cultivating a dynamic research culture, and equipping young scientists with strategies to balance the demands of high-impact publications alongside our shared mission of innovative research.
