Abstract

It still is an open research question why no other scientific award attracts as much attention around the globe as the Nobel Prize. Given the huge media interest, some Nobel Laureates develop routines to deal with the flood of invitations. Francis Crick, for example, printed a correspondence card in response to the pile of unsolicited requests he received: "Dr Crick thanks you for your letter but regrets that he is unable to accept your kind invitation to: … cure your disease, appear on TV, accept an honorary degree etc."

This session traces prize effects with three panelists, the Nobel Laureates Frances H. Arnold, Martin Chalfie and Ada E. Yonath. The discussion is chaired by Nobel Prize historian Nils Hansson.
